NOT ANYMORE In the public sector, never again should taxpayers money be wasted. Adopt meaningful and insightful strategy, in lieu of meaningless and wasteful tactics. Instead of periodically herding people away from the permanent danger zone at the slopes of Mayon Volcano, why not relocate them permanently? If the recent evacuation cost P300 million pesos, why not build houses for 3,000 relocatees, for the same cost? Cooperativize the danger zone for agricultural production, with government support, to compensate for relocation disturbance. On the national scene, instead of wasting taxpayers money in constructing skyways just to decongest gnarled traffic in Pasay City (leading to NAIA), why not charge the local government units with the responsibility to solve their domestic problems (including traffic woes) at their expense? The Local Government Code has already devolved essential government functions to the LGUs. Besides, the people of the Visayas and Mindanao are not concerned at all with congestive traffic in Metro Manila. Why not stop misleading our teachers with the promise of salary increases, and redeem your promise during congressional deliberations on the annual budget like what the president approved the other day? Why not stop wasting time and effort investigating COA oversight in Makati City, as if Makati is the only city in the country? If it took Benhur Luy, instead of COA, to have detected the unlawful siphoning of PDAF funds by lawmakers, COA must be investigated, and its head should not be rewarded with plum appointment to the Supreme Court as associate justice. Why not stop polluting the airlanes with meaningless jingles between elections, because we already know what you did and what you have not done? We know that your only purpose is to control the broadcast medium, with withdrawal of business patronage hanging like sword of Damocles over radio stations. This is most unfair to the people who are made to vote not on the basis of your performance, but merely due to name recall. In the private sector, let us not rouse our neighbors from sleep, just because we feel strongly about our singing voice as well as in our dexterity in voice delivery, horrendously amplified by karaoke. There are lots of things we could think of, for our New Years resolution, for our common good.
