NOT MY WILL “Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this - TopicsExpress

NOT MY WILL “Saying, Father, if thou be willing, remove this cup from me: nevertheless not my will, but thine, be done.” (Luke 22:42) The prayer of Jesus should be our prayer today. He wanted the will of the Father to be done instead of His own will. Perfect, sinless Jesus did not want His own will to be done contrary to the will of the Father. What a great lesson this should be to all of us who are always so sure of ourselves. We often like to accuse our parents of not being able to understand us. This shows we are not like Jesus. He did not want His own will to be done. He wanted to do only the perfect will of God. There are times when we have to give up things we may feel we deserve (comfort, possessions, time) to accomplish the will of God in and through our lives. This is exemplified very clearly in presenting the Gospel. There are many reasons we give for not sharing our testimony of our faith with our neighbors, family and friends. Sometimes, at the center of it all are fear and pride. What will they think? What will they say? How will they respond? How will they feel about me? They are countless. Humility implies that we do not have to worry about ourselves, but to be more concerned with others. Christ was more concerned with others when he chose to obey his father. We can demonstrate the same type of humility when we encounter fears by wrestling in prayer with God and sharing His story with those around us. Challenge: The greatness of a man’s power is the measure of his ability to surrender. Prayer: Lord, help me to do Your will and not my will today.
