NOTE 1 - Psalms 14 Psalm 14 14 The fool has said in his heart, “There is no God.” They are corrupt, They have done abominable works, There is none who does good. 2 The Lord looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. 3 They have all turned aside, They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one. 4 Have all the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call on the Lord? 5 There they are in great fear, For God is with the generation of the righteous. 6 You shame the counsel of the poor, But the Lord is his refuge. 7 Oh, that the salvation of Israel would come out of Zion! When the Lord brings back the captivity of His people, Let Jacob rejoice and Israel be glad. Its interesting how God works because I probably wouldnt have thought of covering this Psalm and someone asked about Psalm 14:1. This Psalm is unique because its the only Psalm that is duplicated... (Look at Psalm 53) and here we are in a time in history where many of us can look around and say... Our world is corrupt. That people are doing abominable works. It seems like violence has increased. While all the protests were going on in Ferguson here in the US... many days I sat and prayed that there would be no more deaths, no more violence. One lady on facebook told me the rioting was good...it would bring awareness. Awareness to what? That some of the police are above the law...and giving a bad name to those who are not... that we are killing each other without reason? Most of us here in the states are pretty aware of all this. I said to her.. violence begets violence. It always has. I cant imagine rioting and looting in Davids time. But David did understand the concept of people killing each other over jealousy and greed. He understood politics since he was one of Israels greatest leaders and made political alliances. He understood people not believing in God and worshipping idols. We could say that he understood corruption. Lets go forward in time to the Apostle Paul who was talking about this Psalm when he said.. Romans 1:21-23 because, although they knew God, they did not glorify Him as God, nor were thankful, but became futile in their thoughts, and their foolish hearts were darkened. 22 Professing to be wise, they became fools, 23 and changed the glory of the incorruptible God into an image made like corruptible man—and birds and four-footed animals and creeping things. Paul, was surrounded by many religions that worshipped other gods. These gods were all made into statues to be worshipped. Like me, Paul couldnt understand why someone would bow down to something that was created by man.. by a potter if the idol was made of clay, or by a blacksmith if the idol was made of gold. And Paul was seeing where history repeated itself... Paul, himself was not immune to corruption. He had been involved in the killing of many christians and hunting them down before he became a believer. They lived in times where people were beheaded for their beliefs. Just like some countries today.. christians are being beheaded for their beliefs in China, Africa and many muslim countries. This Psalm...is special because it applied to Davids time.. Pauls time and ours.. its prophetic of times to come. Tomorrow we will get into Psalm one.. and more of what this Psalm is really addressing... which is the unbelieving heart. https://youtube/watch?v=JMxsp2oWb88
