NOTICE------MONCTON-------ADVISORY> 5:00pm At 4:00pm today, Monday, close to 10,000 households in the City of Moncton were without power and this situation persists. In Bouctouche, 8401 are still without power. In Shediac, 7912 households are without power. Close to 30,000 households in South-East NB have no power at this time. The weather is not expected to cooperate for at least 36 hours with conditions deteriorating rapidly this evening and into tomorrow. The freezing rain is expected to change to ice pellets this evening followed by heavy snow with wind gusts approaching 100k/hr. Further power outages are to be expected given that the power lines are iced up......NB Power is doing all it can do to restore power to those affected. I believe we are facing a weather scenario which will render any rapid resumption of power unlikely. The condition of roads and streets later this evening and through the night are expected to be very dangerous. All city crews and private contractors retained by the City will be doing their best to clear the streets, salt......However, this particular storm is creating a very messy situation and has the potential of causing major disruptions in addition to creating hazardous conditions. Batten down the hatches. This is not going to be a picnic.
