NOTICE OF VACANCY A job opening for the City of Borger will be available at the Water Production & Treatment plant for a Maintenance Mechanic. The starting salary for this position will be $2,396.41 per month or $1106.04 bi-weekly based on the applicant’s qualifications. JOB SUMMARY: Performs a variety of semi-skilled and skilled technical and maintenance work in the operation, maintenance and repair of water production facilities and systems. Works under the general supervision of the Water Plant Superintendent. Monitors the performance of all equipment, gauges and charts in the treatment plant and pump stations; maintains, operates, repairs and replaces equipment as necessary; maintains plant grounds. Collects samples and identifies concentrations of chemical, physical or biological characteristics of water required in accordance with Local, State and Federal requirements; gathers and tests water samples for plant efficiency reports as required. Operates the Water Treatment Plant to ensure compliance with all State and Federal Regulations. Inspects and/or repairs water treatment equipment and systems at frequent intervals to insure that all aspects of the system are functioning properly. Maintains a variety of records relating to inspections and maintenance activity. Insures the proper maintenance of equipment and tools by cleaning and checking equipment and tools after use. Performs routine inspection and preventative maintenance on assigned equipment and refers defects or needed repairs to supervisor; cleans equipment. Performs all duties in conformance with appropriate safety and security standards. Trains lesser skilled employees in plant operations and maintenance procedures. Performs interior and exterior housekeeping duties as directed. May be required to wear a respirator (at times). May be subject to call in case of emergencies or other instances. DESIRED MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS Education and Experience : (A) Graduation from high school or GED equivalent. (B) Two (2) years of experience in a water utility. Necessary knowledge, skills and abilities : (A) Working knowledge of equipment, facilities, materials, methods and procedures used in water treatment plant maintenance and operation activities; working knowledge of laboratory procedures and practices. (B) Ability to perform process control calculations; ability to work safely; ability to communicate effectively verbally and in writing; ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with employees, other departments and the public; ability to understand and carry out written and oral instructions. (C) Ability to work with light and heavy hand tools in the disassembly, repair and assembly of pumps, motors, piping and other plant equipment. SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS Valid Texas State Drivers license.
