NOTICES AND ANNOUNCEMENTS Week of May 4, 2014 * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * We welcome you to our Communion Service which is held on the first Sunday of each month (a Memorial Baptist Church tradition). Everyone is invited to share in this remembrance ceremony as baptism is not a requirement at MBC. We remember the broken body of Jesus Christ and the shedding of his blood so that our sins might be forgiven by God Almighty. If you are doing your best to live a Godly life, please take the bread and drink the cup as you share with us. . . . . . . . .You are welcome here! * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * NEWS FROM THE PEWS * * April 27, 2014 Sue Dolbow was surprised and blessed by a visit from her friend from Burma, Mabel Cam who is 88 years old, and her daughter who are visiting in New York City; PRAYER REQUESTS Ambrose Salinas – for the Ponti Family in their loss; George Reese – for Jennie DeNoto as her chemotherapy treatments end and the family looks to the future; Virginia Suter’s surgery on May 1 followed by a good recovery. “One thing we have learned about history is that humankind does not learn anything from history.” SPRING YARD SALE Our YARD SALE is dependent on those individuals who clean out closets, third-floors, attics and garages. IF you brought ANYTHING in to our YARD SALE, we owe you a debt of gratitude. . . . . . . . .Please accept the thanks of MBC. The Yard Sale went off without a hitch and with a lot of help on Friday and Saturday. The preparation staff, folders, ‘straightener-uppers’ and ‘money-changers’ included Pat Bullock, Doris Chappius, Hazel Davis, Carol Sue Eckart, Sue Eldon, Lillian Finlaw, Dorothy Robinson, Amelia Salinas, Lynn Stoner and Ann Yeich (that’s a group of 10, folks)! Once the final tally of funds collected has been completed, the Mission Board will let us all know. Come around 9:30 a.m., order your breakfast or sweet roll, coffee or iced tea and experience “teaching” in the manner Jesus used – in a local, relaxed setting with those who wish to hear what is being said! You will not even need your Bible! YES! We are back in the Old Testament book of Second Samuel . We will learn how David goes about uniting the Northern Tribes and the Southern Tribes and bringing these Two Nations under ONE rule. What is there about David that allows him to be called “A Man After God’s Own Heart?” We will find some of our most precious and memorable Bible stories are in Samuel. There are still things to be learned that we missed in Sunday School! You might enjoy this small study group if you have a particular interest in God’s Word. COME and join us. * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * * Reformer Martin Luther said this: “Good works do not make a person good, but a good person will do good works.”
