NOV 05 OUR DEFENDER From a Bible Study of the word servants No. 170 - Isaiah part 4 It was the fourteenth year of king Hezekiah’s reign when Sennacherib king of Assyria invaded Judah. He sent a great army to king Hezekiah in Jerusalem. His field commander publicly mocked Hezekiah and the God in whom he trusted. He had a message from the king of Assyria who wondered how Hezekiah could win against even one captain of the least of Sennacherib’s servants. Hezekiah sent messengers to Isaiah for a word from the Lord. And the Lord responded that Hezekiah should not be afraid of the words with which the king of Assyrias servants had blasphemed Him; He would deal with the king of Assyria. Gods angel in the Assyrian campKing Sennacherib also sent a letter to Hezekiah, saying Jerusalem would definitely fall to Assyria. Hezekiah spread out the letter before the Lord in His temple, and prayed earnestly for help. Again the Lord’s reply came to Hezekiah through His prophet Isaiah. In the message brought by his servants, Sennacherib had reproached the Lord. But the Lord would defend Jerusalem. He would save it for His own sake and for His servant David’s sake. An angel of the Lord went into the Assyrian camp and killed 185,000 men. The remaining Assyrians returned to Nineveh. Sennacherib worshipped Nisroch, a pagan god. Hezekiah worshipped God, the Creator of the universe. King Sennacherib opposed king Hezekiah through his servants. He wanted to destroy Judah and twice sent intimidating messages to Hezekiah; twice Hezekiah turned to the Lord God. Who won? When others seek to intimidate you and destroy you, turn to the One who is willing and able to defend and protect you.
