NOV 15-This Day in Entertainment & Pop Music History: 1956-The movie Love Me Tender featuring Elvis Presley in his acting debut, premiered at New Yorks Paramount Theatre...1959-The young Beatles, then calling themselves Johnny & The Moondogs, had traveled by bus to Manchester, England for the regional finals of a competition where the prize was to appear on a local TV show. But, the group, just teenagers at the time, discovered the last bus back to Liverpool was going to leave before the curtain call where the applause of the audience would decide the winner. The dejected lads had no choice but to board the bus and return home...1966-The Doors signed a 7 album recording deal with Elektra Records. (Check out the 1968 video below taken from the Smothers Brothers TV show. The Door performed live with backing by a string and horn section)...1969-Janis Joplin was arrested during a concert in Tampa, Florida for using vulgar and indecent language. Joplin became upset after police moved into the arena and forced fans to move back into their seats. As Janis left the stage, she screamed at a cop, called him an SOB and threatened to kick his face in. That’s when Joplin was cuffed and arrested...1969-The Beatles appeared on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine.
