NOVEMBER 12th: Imagine getting home from a long day of work/errands, and you open your mailbox to find a letter from a church leader. You are intrigued because why would the church be mailing you? The letter reads: Dear _____________: God, by his grace through Christ, called you to become his people. So I am amazed that you are turning away so quickly and believing something different than the Good News. Really, there is no other Good News. But some people are confusing you; they want to change the Good News of Christ. We preached to you the Good News. So if we ourselves, or even an angel from heaven, should preach to you something different, we should be judged guilty! I said this before, and now I say it again: You have already accepted the Good News. If anyone is preaching something different to you, let that person be judged guilty! Do you think I am trying to make people accept me? No, God is the One I am trying to please. Am I trying to please people? If I still wanted to please people, I would not be a servant of Christ. Sincerely, Church Leader After getting over the initial shock of a “random” letter being mailed to you, how would you process these words? Paul writes these words to the churches in Galatia (see Galatians 1:6-10). These words are still powerful and SO VERY TRUE today. When you hear sermons preached from the Bible, do you go back and process what word was spoken? Do you ever read the scripture text on your own and listen to how the text speaks to you? It is very important to spend your time looking and studying scripture yourself. Because I went to Divinity school and was called into ministry, does not mean Gods Word comes to me naturally and everything I say you can take to the bank! If everyone had scripture “figured out” and could explain all it’s meaning, then we would all know and recognize Gods voice immediately. Scripture, AKA God’s Word, is alive today. We are expected to be intentional in reading and interacting with scripture. Make a point each day to delve into the Word.
