Nelson Flores is well-known in the salsa community as a dance teacher, competition judge, and the founder and creative director of Descarga Latina in New York. He is one of the most sought after Salsa dancers today; and is one of the pioneers of the NY style Salsa On2. Known for his smooth style, which continually honors the roots of salsa, Nelson teaches authentic, musical choreography and combinations. Nelson has performed and choreographed for many renowned Latin artists, such as the late Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Oscar De Leon, Ruben Blades, Tito Nieves, Jerry Rivera, Fania All-Stars, Marc Anthony, La India and many more. He co-created an Off-Broadway show called Latin Madness, where he participated as a performer, director, choreographer, producer, and project manager. Additionally, Nelson has performed at every major venue in NY (Carnegie Hall, Madison Square Garden, Waldorf Astoria, Radio City Music Hall, Shea Stadium and Yankee Stadium). Ever imagined yourself on an international stage? Ever wanted to improve your dancing while having fun? 2013 was a really exciting season for ¡SALSA CALIENTE! We traveled to the Puerto Rico Salsa Congress in July & the New York Salsa Congress in September for the 12th consecutive year. In the past we have also toured to Atlanta, Chicago, Toronto, the Bahamas, and Italy. Wednesday, December 11- Club Phoenix Aerobics Room, 2122A Government St 8:00- 8:30pm Registration & Interview, 8:30- 9:00pm Footwork, 9:00- 9:30pm Partnerwork, 9:30- 10:00pm Social $10 includes written assessment of your dancing. Everyone that auditions will be offered a place on one of the following teams: LOCAL TEAM- If you have never performed before or have a limited amount of time you are able to commit to, this is the team for you. Learn exciting choreographies to perform at local events with no pressure to perform until you feel ready. Commitment is one hour per week. TRAINING TEAM- Auditioned performance group with rehearsals twice a week plus additional class and social requirements. This is the team for you if you have never performed before but are a strong Salsa dancer or if you are new to Salsa, but have a strong dance or performance background. Team may be offered the chance to travel. LADIES TEAM- Auditioned performance group with rehearsals twice a week plus additional class and social requirements. This team takes only the top girls and may be offered the chance to travel. In the past, the group has performed in Puerto Rico, New York, Atlanta & Chicago. TOURING TEAM- Auditioned performance group with rehearsals twice a week plus additional class and social requirements. This team takes only a max of the 3 highest ranking girls and 3 highest ranking guys from our yearly audition plus 2 understudies. In the past, the groups dancers have performed locally as well as in Italy, Puerto Rico, New York, the Bahamas, Mexico, Los Angeles, Atlanta, and Toronto. The team has also competed in the World Salsa Open Championships. Requirements: A passion for dance, a willingness to learn & work hard, a positive attitude, the ability to work as part of a close group, a strong sense of commitment.
