NOW THAT THE EBOLA VIRUS IS CONFIRMED IN LIBERIA, QUITE THE DOUBTING AND BELIEVES—AS THE VIRUS CLAIMS 105 LIVES AND OVER 100 ARE SUSPECTED VICTIMS. BY: ( Tamba F. J. Johnson- 0886-605-678) Jesus Said, “Blessed are those who do not see but yet believe”. It is not important to see an Ebola patient before we can believe that Ebola is real in Liberia. It can be recalled that the Ebola Virus was reported in the African Country of Congo in 1976 approximately 40 years ago but its severity was not alarming. Comparing the first outbreak in 1976 to that of the second in 2014, the World Health Organization has stated that death rate in the second outbreak in 2014 is very alarming in that it has claimed the lives of over 500 persons including health workers in the three West African Countries (Guinea, Liberia and Sierra Leone). Alarming because, an affected person cannot easily be diagnose until after two to three testing periods or after the period of twenty-one days. What makes it more scaring is that, many Liberians, mostly the younger folks who feel disenchanted, have decided to express their frustration through a noncompliance posture thereby spreading rumors that are misleading the Liberian public that the Ebola Virus is a Scam which the government of Liberia is using to defog huge money from the coffer of the nation to enrich few comrades of the inner circles while leaving the commonest in abject poverty. Would it be true that the Government of Liberia is in the habit of misleading its citizenry on this Ebola Virus? Can we say that the Ugandan Medical Doctor who died at J.F. K. Hospital is also a Scam? Or what about those health workers who were reported dead, can we then say that they enter into a treaty with the government to defog the nation and the world for their personal gain? Though it is constitutionally right for every citizen of a country who feels disenchanted to peaceful exhibit noncompliance postures against their government in protest to draw the attention of authority towards their grievances—equally so, it becomes the share responsibility for each and every citizen to ensure that the peace and security of that country is secured. Even though many Liberians in and out of Liberia may not be satisfied with the manner in which the governance of the state is being administered, however, Liberia is at a crossroad with the outbreak of the Ebola Virus in mid May 2014, which needs the collective efforts of the government, partners and citizenry. Since the Virus was reported in Liberia by the Ministry of Health and Social Welfares, the Ebola Virus has claimed over 100 Liberians and at least one Foreigner lives. Can we say that those people deserved to have died in such a fashion and manner? Absolutely No—but those folks met their untimely death while rendering services to fellow Liberians; least did they know that they were risking their lives. In a way of spreading falsehood by some elements of evil that Ebola is not real, I strongly feel it’s a disservice to those medical practitioners who could be considered as heroes and herons of our time that met their untimely death while in the execution of their services to the state and its people. Now that, Ebola is being confirmed in Liberia, I am calling on all Liberians and foreign nationals to please stop doubting the existence of the Ebola Virus and engaged in the preventive measure such as, washing your hands with chlorine water and soap as often as you can, use hand sensitizer, avoid coming in close contact with the urine, vomit, blood, etc of a sick relatives of friends, as it often said, prevention is better than cure. Finally, do not believe anyone that claim to have medicine or vaccine for Ebola and have the power to cure Ebola through prayer. Do not be deceived by falsehoods.
