NOW THE WATCH-DOG ARE NOT BARKING. As a boy that grew up to understand how the village works, among the the various things I learnt in the village was How our big dog then bark when treatened by an intruder. They was this day she almost barked throughout the night and when we came out in the morning we discover our poultry had been broken into and many of the birds were not there. in this case the dog notified us but we refused coming out. but they are cases were you use your intuition to sense if they is an intruder because of the unusual movement in your compound. can I say we are using our intuition to discover unusual movement in Cross River as against the notifying barking our dogs? Now if a dog is not barking ,means it has lost it ability to bark or has something in it mouth. if the barking is after the intruder is gone, it means the dog was eating while the intruder perpetrate his nefarous acts. This piece never want to portray anybody as a dog or an intruder but to paint a clear picture of the point it seek to buttres. enough of the dog, intruder thing lets move to the crux of the matter. To start with, some years back cross River state government bought an aircraft DASH 8propeller for a whooping sum N13billion from Rivers state government. the aircraft which was originally configured for VIPS had to be re-configured to a commercial configuration even when we were told the reason for the purchase is to airlift tourists from calabar to Bebi airstrip. if I am to ask any question here,I will love to ask if it was bought for commercial use even when its VIPS configured? well, the aircraft was not flown and even if it had been flown, Amaechi had warned that the smallness of the plane had made it difficult to be flown on a particular climatic conditions. where is the aircraft? How many stakeholders has ask this question? how about our legislature? lets not cry over split milk right? OK. somewhere last week, I stumbled on a caption, IMOKE TOYS WITH HEALTH OF NORTHERN CROSS RIVERIANS ,BY Unimke Nawa on the Eagle vol.1 no16. were I was made to understand all the general hospital in the have been conceded to private individuals.with General Hospital Bekwara going for N100 million to one Dr silvester Ebaye; General Hospital Obudu going for N500million to saint Luke Hospital consortium and General Hospital Okpoma (yala ),Sankwala (Obanliku ),Igoli (ogoja )all were given out to Meditron-loba Healthcare Ltd for N300million. when I saw this it pear me like and arrow through my heart. did it by any means occur to the Governor that this people are out to make their own profit at the expense of the entire rural dwellers? is the health of the people he promised Gubernatorial seat not of utmost important to him again? is our health in exchange for the seat? is they no committee for health and Related matters in the Cross River House of Assembly? too much unanswered question I guess? I might not be elected to represent Cross River North in any capacity but the sheer cry of my people and what I envisage is why I have set out to ask questions. To round up, it no news or still news if I mention the N 40billion bond. for the purpose of clarification lets look at what bond means. according to Webster Dictionary it is,a legal evidence of LONG-TERM debt, by which the bond issuer (the borrower)is obliged to pay interest when due, and repay the principal at maturity, as specified on the face of the bond certificate. The right of the holder (the lender )are specified in the bond indenture, which contains the legal terms and conditions under which the bond was issued it has a period of maturity and until then cant be visited. the period for which it grows to maturity like a baby yield interest for the lender (financial institution ).the interest are fixed and variable -while the variable dance to the tune of the economy the other is fixed as the name implies. what this tells us is the bond if allowed to sail through would indebt us and we would be to pay out of our anus with our lean allocation. why would our own No 1 citizen want to mortgage Cross Riverian future for a legacy project? what legacy does he want to leave? my funny friend called it legacy of debt . The most appalling is the way the bill sail through CRSHA like a bat out of Hellfire. Do we still have anybody to speak for us? where are our stakeholders? talking about stakeholders, I know appointment s,and series of juxtaposition s in the name of caucus meeting and consultation wouldnt allow them to consult their Dictionary. but I have done it for them. A stakeholder accordingly to Business Dictionary. com is,a person, group or organization that has interest or concern In an organization, a stakeholder can affect or be affected by the organizations, objective s and policies is the definition in the political sphere different from the above definition? if no,why are the stakeholders playing to the gallery? are there afraid of biting the fingers that has not fed them even when there are not sure of the meal? I challenge every political stakeholder to stand up to this call because their endulgence or negligence would always call posterity to work in their generation s.why are there silent when their voice are needed the most? it a wake up call to to all the stakeholder to stand against the N40billion bond because for the CRSHA we know they cant bark because they are chewing or waiting to chew. The future of Cross River youth are about sinking before their own eyes even when their parents are the captains. it is a call. ODEY GEORGE O FROM YALA
