NOW WE KNOW A few nights ago, my wife turned on a science - TopicsExpress

NOW WE KNOW A few nights ago, my wife turned on a science show that was covering things in the universe like black holes. She likes the beauty of the images of bodies in the heavens. As I passed in and out of the room, a phrase caught my attention and that was “…now we know…”. The man using the phrase was explaining the current understanding of something they didn’t previously understand. The whole presentation was complemented by symphonic music and colorful visual effects. It was impressive but I wondered if anyone would replay the tape the next time the phrase “but now we know” is uttered. I have no doubt that the persons presenting the programming were intelligent, believed what they were presenting and are open to further investigation but, to me, it emphasized how limited man’s understanding was and is. Join any on-line discussion about a controversial topic and, if your group of participants is diverse enough, you will find people that know things that just aren’t so. They may believe what they are saying but they may be misinformed or stubborn. In some cases, I think those with opinions about “scientific” things believe certain conclusions based on inference and limited perspective. In other words, they only think in one direction. The same could be said about me, I’m sure but I admit, my conclusions are going to be influenced upon what I find in the Bible, because I believe it is written by God. I don’t think too many of those who don’t believe in a god will be so candid as to admit their “knowledge” is often “faith” in their beliefs. I really don’t believe the problem is intelligence in analyzing data and drawing conclusions. I think the problem is mindset and hard-heartedness, to which, I am sure, some would say I am guilty. Our Lord There are several times the phrase “now we know “ is used in the Scriptures. Sometimes it is a knowledge based upon common understanding. Other times it is a knowledge gained by personal experience. Yet other times, it is a knowledge revealed from above. John 8:52 Then the Jews said to Him, “Now we know that You have a demon! They said this to Jesus Christ and they were wrong. They had drawn conclusions based upon their limited understanding. John 9:31 Now we know that God does not hear sinners; but if anyone is a worshiper of God and does His will, He hears him. This was said by the formerly blind man. It is common knowledge and it is true in a limited sense. God hears all things and hears the sinner’s prayer of repentance. I believe He blesses all because of His mercy and grace but his point was that Jesus had God’s ear because He was righteous, which was true. Romans 3:19 Now we know that whatever the law says, it says to those who are under the law, that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. This is a revealed truth that everyone knows but may suppress. All feel guilt because of sin and we learn to deal with it in a right or wrong way or we learn to not feel the guilt. 1 Corinthians 13:12 For now we see in a mirror, dimly, but then face to face. Now I know in part, but then I shall know just as I also am known. This phrase does not match exactly but it is a future knowledge based on hope and an ever increasing experience. I think all people hope for intimacy and to be understood. That hope is found in knowing Christ. 2 Corinthians 5:16 Therefore, from now on, we regard no one according to the flesh. Even though we have known Christ according to the flesh, yet now we know Him thus no longer. Here is knowledge based upon revelation and experience. A former view and knowledge of Jesus gave way to a different but deeper understanding of Him, and that perspective carries over into the way we view others. Dare to grow deeper in your knowledge and understanding, not more isolated and narrow.God has so much more for those who love Him.
