NOYIF IS CONDUCTING ONLINE OPINION POLLS Its barely less than six months to the much-talked-about 2015 presidential election, the race remains unclear as the identities of the contenders are still shrouded in uncertainty. This means if all goes the way the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) planned it, on February 14, 2015, Nigerians would troop to polling booths, queue up and vote for the presidential candidates, whose political manifestoes are currently unknown to them. At the moment, the only highly probable candidate in the forthcoming presidential election remains President Goodluck Jonathan, whose body language clearly suggests that he would be seeking re-election. In his party, the Peoples Democratic Party, the only other likely aspirant who has shown the desire to gun for the presidency is the Governor of Jigawa State, Sule Lamido. The second-term governor would likely be the only real contender for the PDP presidential ticket besides Jonathan. He would most likely be the only option in the North’s quest to wrest the Presidency from the South in 2015 through the ruling party. On the side of the opposition party, there have been several speculations about the presidential aspirants who hope to get the ticket of the All Progressives Congress (APC). However, none of them seems to stand out as favourite. Different considerations and permutations have favoured the emergence of different aspirants, and have made it difficult to predict who would be thrown into the ring to confront PDP’s eventual candidate. Apart from the much speculated plan by the APC to field a former Head of State, Maj.-Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (retd.) as its presidential candidate, with former Governor of Lagos State, Asiwaju Bola Tinubu, as his running mate, other calculations have thrown up former Vice-President Atiku Abubakar; Governor Rabiu Kwankwaso of Kano State; and Speaker of the House of Representatives, Aminu Tambuwal, as potential candidates, among others. INEC timetable, which was formulated in accordance with the Electoral Act, has stipulated a timeframe of barely three months between November 16, 2014 and February 12, 2015 for presidential campaigns. According to the timetable, INEC will issue the notice of election on October 1, after which political parties can hold their primaries between October 2 and December 11. The presidential election and elections into the National Assembly are to hold on February 14, while governorship election and election into the state Houses of Assembly, shall hold on February 28. In view of the aforementioned; NOYIF as a Pan-Northern Youth Organization hereby bring forward forward some potential Presidential materials from the region as follows: - 1. Gen. Muhammadu Buhari (Rtd.); 2. Engr. Rabiu M. Kwankwaso; 3. Alh. Atiku Abubakar; 4. Alh. Sule Lamido; 5. Sam Nda-Isiah; 6. Rt. Hon. Aminu W. Tambuwal; 7. Sen. David Mark & 8. Sen.
