“NPA ambushed an unarmed and off-duty Militiaman” By: 1Lt Joe Patrick A Martinez BUTUAN CITY, Agusan del Norte --- Unarmed and off-duty CAFGU Active Auxilliary (CAA) was ambushed by three (3) NPAs armed with M16 rifle at Sitio Sta Cruz, Brgy Manila de Bugabos, an outskirt barangay of Butuan City around 6:20 this morning, October 5, 2013. Said attack happened after the victim (CAA Crisanto T Pangarga Jr., 44 years old, married, a father of 2 children and a “Habal-habal” alternate driver by profession) transported his passenger to his destination and was on his way back to his residence on board his motorcycle when he was treacherously attacked by fully armed NPA members. Pangarga survived the attack however he suffered multiple gun shots from M16 “Armalite” rifle on different parts of his body. He is now being treated by trained medical personnel of the 2nd Forward Support Medical Platoon at Headquarters 402nd Infantry Brigade, Barangay Bancasi, Butuan City. Ltc Virgilio F Luna INF (GSC) PA, Commanding Officer, 29th Infantry Battalion said, “The attack on CAA Pangarga was an act of cowardice on the part of the NPA. He was in civilian attire, was clearly unarmed and was just trying to earn an additional income for his family when he was ambushed.” “It is very unfortunate that this happens, all of us want to live in peace, free from harassments and intimidations. What will happen to his family, to his wife and his children if their father dies? And so I urge the peace loving people of Butuan City and Caraga, let us condemn those who use threat and intimidation against the people especially these NPAs. Let us give peace a chance”, Ltc Luna said. Said CAA will be transported to Camp Evangelista Station Hospital (CESH), in Headquarters 4th Infantry Division, Brgy Patag, Cagayan de Oro City for proper medical assistance and to recuperate from his gunshot wounds. “This is how we care for our soldiers. We will see to it that he will receive all necessary support from the AFP”, He added.
