NPC Texas would like to congratulate Yuri Diogenes on an amazing transformation. Athletes compete for many reasons. Sometimes they might not look as shredded as other competitors on stage but you may not know the whole story. Yuri tells us his: When my doctor told me that I needed to lose weight because my liver was getting compromised with fat all around it, I didnt realize it was so bad. At that time I was 280lbs with 36% body fat. The only choice that I had was to make a real change and I knew that the discipline imposed by bodybuilding was the best way for me to achieve that goal. I started working with my former trainer Greg McCoy in October 2011 and by October 2012 I was 100lbs lighter. It was time to build lean mass and continue the journey to the ultimate goal: compete in a bodybuilding show. In June 2014 I achieved that goal at Adela Garcia Classic in Pflugerville/TX, which was an amazing show, great venue and great organization. After that show I received one common question: did you win? I didnt win the show, but I did win my own battle against obesity and that was part of my goal. As Lee Thompson said during his talk in the NPC Workshop at Destination last January 3rd: it is about building a better version of you. From that perspective I have no doubt that bodybuilding helped me to achieve this better version and now Im ready to continue to evolve and be on stage again in 2015. Yuri epitomizes the thought that not all athletes compete for medals and the reward for a successful journey is way more important than standing in the top 5 by the end of the evening.
