NPF lashes out at Senapati census report IMPHAL, Jan 15: Accusing the Congress led Manipur go-vernment as anti-tribals, the Naga peoples Front (NPF) Manipur State alleged that forcible reduction of popula-tion in the three sub-divisions of Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul of Senapati district is another form of commiting genocide upon the people. NPF today asserted the party would not tolerate if the minority communities of the state are further discriminated on any ground and that the party would encounter all forms of discrimination, said NPF Manipur general secretary Athuan Abonmei. “The Manipur state government has set certain agen- das to fiercely reduce the po-pulation of the three blocks as injustice was already meted out through the last two consecutive Census of 2001 and 2011. The state government has rejected the physically counted Census data of both 2001 and 2011, that too after the provisional Census data was published, which amount to violation of fundamental rights of the concern citizens. As the officially verified and accepted figure of the population was rejected by the Ma- nipur government, a joint re-verifications of Census 2001 and 2011 were carried out by SK Chakrabarti, DDG and Dr MH Mehanathan, director, Ministry of Home on May 9-10, 2011 and found 100 percent to be true. However, the state government estimated the population at 40 percent done randomly. Such discriminatory attitudes of the state government needs to be checked”, the NPF leader pointed out. The NPF had thus submitted a memorandum on August 31, 2013 stating that govt of India look into the matter and exend their authoritative decision to accept the 2001 and 2011 Census in respect of Mao-Maram, Paomata and Purul sub-divisions, so that rights of the tribal community is retained. The feedback of the memorandum was recei-ved by the front on Sept 29, 2013, mentioned Athuan. The NPF also conveyed gratitude to the Ministry of Home Affairs and Registrar General of India for facilitating the party in producing factual population figure in the three sub-divisions. The NPF also encouraged the different communities that had rendered their unceasing support in contributing and bringing out the true records and stand of the people.
