NPP Supremo calls on CEC, demands dismantling of Gujarat EVMs for J&K VOM News Service New Delhi, August 20, 2014: Prof.Bhim Singh, Chief Patron of National Panthers Party & Member of National Integration Council called on Shri V.S. Sampath, the Chief Election Commissioner of India at Nirvachan Sadan, New Delhi and presented a protest letter demanding scrapping of the use of the EVMs for J&K Assembly polls in 2014. The NPP Supremo told the CEC that the electorates in J&K has every reason to believe that EVMs being imported from Gujarat shall be manipulated and misused by the Prime Minister who himself hails from Gujarat. Prof.Bhim Singh argued with the CEC that use of EVMs has been scrapped in several European countries including in some states of the USA, Germany and other countries because the EVMs were found defective and manipulative. Mr. V.S. Sampath, the CEC defended the decision of the Election Commission of India in importing 15000 EVMs from Gujarat emphasizing that there are two EVM manufacturing companies in India and none of them is based in Gujarat and these EVMs have been made by those companies. He, however, assured Prof.Bhim Singh that the Election Commission of India will reply to the queries raised by the Prof.Bhim Singh. Prof.Bhim Singh in his letter has questioned; a). Why Gujarat manufacturers have been chosen for this purpose and that too for J&K which has a history of rigging elections and manipulation of EVMs? 15000 EVMs are being utilized for nearly 10,000 polling stations. 5000 extra EVMs could be utilized to manipulate the entire election. b). Who are these manufacturers/exporters of EVMs from Gujarat to J&K? c). Are the services of these Gujarat manufacturers are being utilized in other states like Maharashtra, Haryana and other during the forthcoming Assembly elections? d). Were these particular Gujarat manufacturers of EVMs were chosen/selected by a unilateral decision without inviting tenders as has been the policy to avoid corrupt practice? e). What is the guarantee that Gujarat EVMs shall not be misused or manipulated to rig polls to accomplish the dream of the Prime Minister to secure 44 + Assembly seats in J&K, knowing well that J&K has no appeal to the voters? Mr. V.S. Sampath also assured Prof.Bhim Singh to consider his request for holding a Round Table Conference of the representatives of all the recognized political parties operating in J&K to remove the misgivings and rebuild confidence and faith in the Indian democracy.
