NPU-R Fred Hope Jr Parks & Recreation Dept. Basketball camp In getting ready for back to school on July 6 there will be a Basketball Camp. There is no registration for this program but for other programs there is a $5 fee. There will be a discussion on Crime prevention. QUESTIONS: Question on senior citizen as well as $9 million dollar grant. Was told he would get the information on where the money went. Ron Shcure: Ask if added staff was place to take care of the over load. It was stated that another person was needed but there is no money at this time to hire anybody else! Mr. Moore; Public Works: There are3 meetings scheduled & is important that we attend. The first meeting is July 8 at the Old Chamber Hall 6-8pm, July 10 meets at 6-8pm & July 15 at Drew Charter School. The Atlanta Street Car on July 1. It is open to public comments on July 15. The Sidewalk project was tabled until next month. Mr. Lawrence said Sidewalk Maintenance Legistration has been tabled to get better contracts & is due on July 18. Ron Shucre: The city has gotten rid of a lot of their own equipment so now we have to depend on contractors. This was confirmed by the city. The work has halted on projects such as the Greenbriar project is going again. Watershed Van Ford: went over the Project Points & printed copies are on the table. He told us that at this time nothing is going on in the NPU-R area at this time. Ron Shcure questioned about the Beltline owing watershed management money. The city did agree that Atlanta has the highest water bills in the country. It was sujested that a study be done to lower water bills. Mr. Ford said he would see if he could find the information & agreed with the highest water bills due to years of lack of updates to the system. We were told that the bills will not be coming down in the near future but there will be no increases until the rest of the country comes up to where Atlanta is now. It was also questioned on the maintain of it but was told it was not underwater shed management. Solicitors Office Cheryl Barns: Municipal Courts. We were told that Code Enforcement will be held next week in Courtroom 3B. We are actively reviewing case management to make some needed changes. Next month they should be looking for new vendors. Mr. Howard: Asked her to clarify the full week which starts always on Monday. Mr. Schure named 2 areas with highest housing codes, asking if banks & realtors are being investigated on this flipping of the houses, & to give us some information on houses where all the equity has made the houses too high to sell. Ms. Barns told us it is very difficult to trace who owns property but those that were identified were prosecuted like that on Allison Court. They are currently doing title searches but some are beyond the city ability. Code Enforcement Officer Weekes: Is sitting in for Evans who could not make it. Code Enforcement has 15 new cases 3 complied, 14 has had property maintance request mailed out & only one is highly hazardous. Bring us information next month on some specific properties that were given to him last month next month when he comes. If you do not know the address you give the address of one next to it or across the street. Somebody said that he had tried to get the vacant carwash on Campbellton Road but was turned down but it was not brought before us. Police Department Lt Sokloski: We include beats 9, 10, & 11 crime down 23% with exception of burglary but there is a downward trend. It was questioned about a lot of police activity on Campbellton Road with police stopping car after car. This is a traffic watch in which they watch for violation & ticket may or may not be issued. If a call is made 2 or 3 cars will be sent. People are traumatized from just being stopped & if police has training talked about 2 police stopping car one in front & one in back & the lady made to get out of the car under gun point this situation was in East Point! Traffic Stop is the most dangerous situation for an officer. Question on the temp tag including the Red Dealer tags has to be registered to that car. If somebody is constantly being arrested & turned lose you need to complain to the judge. Mike Prosecutor: There are 2 new repeated offenders & we will be given an update as soon as they are finished a Mr Phillip will go to trial on August 11. 2 seniors had wallet taken inside the Kroger on Ralph Abernathy. It was pointed out that Kroger is not doing their part to protect customers. A question was asked about providing more officers in areas with senior citizens Ask public safety to invite somebody from citizen review board to attend. No council member’s represented: Vincent Fort: DOT asked to present an action item & to check for any that is not resolved. Shcure: asked about a turn off being closed which causes traffic back up. We have to be clear that the NPU did not know about it until they found out the bridge was closed. Also questioned was why the SS office on MLK has been closed. No notice was given when closed on June 9th. He told us that John Lewis is the one you need to contact. We need to contact the elected officials in that area & question why. Howard wants on record that the planner was not present & that we asked that there be a planner at every meeting. Land Use Committee: Legends Sports Bar & Grill is looking for their liquor license from a couple of years ago that was turned down. Since Land Use Committee did not meet, a motion made to suspend this until next week the motion carried with 8 for 0 against to deferred to next month. Also brought up was “Nemos” in the old Red Lobster building. Charles Lovett who owns the day care next door with over 100 kids & wants to open the restaurant next door to his day care which will be an upscale restaurant & he can keep an eye on it. The liquor license will be grandfathered in due to 3 other restaurants having it. He plans on hiring with in the community. 404-213-9275 is the phone number for the Day Care as well as 404-629-3747. This is going before city next Tuesday. A motion is on the floor (the NPU-R has dropped the ball in notifying this). The motion to defer & has been properly 2nd to defer to next month. The motion has been modified to meet with Mr. Lovett before the 8th with 5 for 6 against so motion defeated. A motion has been bade & properly 2nd to move on. Question on who dropped the ball & it was not the land use committee. The motion to approve the application 10 for 4 against so the motion has been carried. Zoning Review Board: Shcure ask to defer this to the Land Use Committee properly 2nd to deferred to land use: 8 for 0 against vote carried APA not here Mr. Howard pointed out Atlanta Planning Board there are 7 committees & APAD mirrors them NPU-R mirrors that such each has a public safety committee. Mr. Howard yields the floor to Mr. Schure who points out a nominee to fill in the position to invest Atlanta has not been filed. An award has been suggested to be used at our use for $300. Office of Planning every member should be given to every member of anything turned in to be sure the city Motion Financial planning be given to every member of the NPU-R be given a copy of the request for grants to prevent the giving of 3 different copies like happened recently. The motion every member of NPU-R be given a copy of every financial record go to each member of NPU-R passed with for 9 for 1 against motion carried. Treasure has left.
