NRM have been taken to court and I actually think that the Mbabazi legal team, if I can call them that way, have got a strong case. I would really love to know the outcome of all this. What happened in Namboole on 15 Dec 2014 was a bit unfortunate for the party, and it would be easy for all of us to follow Abdul Mulassis advise of FA- KUMUDALA-GWO, but i think this has far stretching repercussions for democracy in Uganda. If the Mbabazi team(deal or no deal) moves ahead with their attempt to find loopholes in the NRM Constitution, then I believe this will be a victory for the multipartism in Uganda, and I think they should be supported by both the opposition and the Ugandans at heart in NRM. But even if they dont win this case, the fact that President Museveni is now the overall controller of the ruling party, the army, arguably the parliament, borehole functions, e.t.c, leaves a bad taste for everyone involved. Let us not forget that, as Martin Luther King, Jr, said:everything Hitler did in Germany was legal, but that didnt stop tongues wagging before he even lost power. Franklin D. Roosevelt also said something interesting which we may relate to this, and I believe Mrs.Mbabazi Jackchan agrees with him too:“The liberty of a democracy is not safe if the people tolerate the growth of private power to a point where it becomes stronger than their democratic state itself. That, in its essence, is fascism - ownership of government by an individual, by a group, or any controlling private power.” Anyway, Im not a lawyer, its X-mas and I probably dont know what Im talking about. So, I will leave it to the likes of Edgar Muvunyi Tabaro to take this debate forward.
