NSAC Looks at Growth in FSA Microloan Program Link: sustainableagriculture.net/blog/farm-microloans-big-in-2014/ The National Sustainable Agriculture Coalition (NSAC) recently considered the results of the USDA Farm Service Agencys microloan program in 2014, as compared with 2013, the first year of the program. In 2014, more loans were made, for both a higher total value and a higher average amount than in 2013. NSACs analysis shows that the vast majority of states made fewer than 100 microloans in 2014, but it reveals that some states are making substantially more microloans. In addition, some states with predominantly small farms are using the microloan program for a significant portion of total FSA farm loans. The analysis shows some states making disproportionately few microloans, however. The results from 2014 show that microloans are serving many beginning farmers, and that some also went to minority, women, and veteran farmers.
