NSW -- Severe Weather Warning -- UPDATE Severe Weather Warning for damaging winds for people in the Illawarra, South Coast, Central Tablelands, Southern Tablelands, Snowy Mountains and Australian Capital Territory forecast districts Issued at 3:32 pm EST on Sunday 18 August 2013. Gale force winds expected for the southeast. Weather Situation A strong cold front will cross southeast NSW tonight and Monday morning. Northwest winds are expected to increase ahead of the system, to become strong to gale force over parts of the southeast, particularly higher ground. A much colder, gusty southwesterly stream will follow the front with widespread snow showers on the Alps. Damaging winds averaging about 60 km/h with gusts of 100 km/h are forecast for the Snowy Mountains district today and are expected to extend north to the Southern Tablelands, Australian Capital Territory and Central Tablelands forecast districts tonight and early Monday morning. Damaging winds are also considered a possibility for the Illawarra and South Coast districts tomorrow morning, particularly higher parts. Blizzard conditions are expected for Alpine areas, particularly tonight and Monday, and winds about the Alpine Peaks may gust to around 130 km/h. Wind gusts of about 125 km/h were recorded at Thredbo Top Station this afternoon. The State Emergency Service advises that people should: Move vehicles under cover or away from trees. Secure or put away loose items around your house, yard and balcony. Keep clear of fallen power lines. For emergency help in floods and storms, ring your local SES Unit on 132 500. The next warning will be issued by 11:00 pm EST Sunday.
