NSW - Falls of close to 40mm in far west NSW in recent days Saturday August 16, 2014 - 08:55 EST Some parts of the far west have received rain falls in recent days totalling nearly 40 millimetres. The Bureau of Meteorology says theres been widespread, moderate to heavy rain across the north west. Forecaster, Chris Webb, says today should see some more isolated showers in the north west and isolated thunderstorms but the rain band contracting. Over the two days weve had 38 millimetres at Tibooburra and since 9 AM (AEST) yesterday so thats about 21 hours, 30 millimetres at White Cliffs also in the far north west of the state, 21 millimetres at Wilcannia, he said. Theres also been nearly 13 mm at Bourke and about 12 at Cobar. Mr Webb says the systems moving slowly to the south east with a low pressure system involved and widespread rain band which will bring an increasingly rain trend for the Central Tablelands and Central West Slopes today. He says today the heaviest falls today should be on the plains. Out there west of Parkes should get 20 to 30 millimetres possibly locally even heavier but not quite as much on the ranges themselves around the Orange area we may see totals around the 10 millimetre mark with rain increasing during the day, he said. Mr Webb says theres expected to be a marked easing trend on the ranges and slopes on Monday and Tuesday where the rain will turn to a few showers. - ABC © ABC 2014
