NSW Police are inviting the public to ‘Have Your Say’ about a new initiative which would see less serious crimes able to be reported online. The proposed NSW Police Force Community Portal initiative will allow the community to report lesser crimes online from a computer or via an application on a mobile device. This will not only be more convenient for the public but more importantly will offer an alternative communication channel between them and police. Users will be able to register and create their own account from where they can interact with police and track the progress of their reported crimes. Only certain types of low-level non-life threatening crimes will be eligible to be reported online. The NSW Police Force Policing Program Director, Superintendent Keith Willott said police need the community’s feedback before the portal can become a reality. “At this stage of the project’s development it is crucial that the public have their say,” Supt Willott said. “With this in mind, we have setup The NSW Police Force Community Portal Survey. “Police will use the community’s feedback, opinions and views to further develop the online crime reporting portal before it ‘goes live’. “We are encouraging members of the community to provide their details in the survey so that we can involve them with the ideas that may be submitted.” The public can have their say by visiting engage.haveyoursay.nsw.gov.au/policeportal
