NTC Garden in Jos has gone down. It went down with lots of memories. I remember when it was the place to be for undergraduate teetotallers like us. It had the best yam balls & scotch eggs. It was our favourite destination with MacDonald Deme & Ignatius Shaiyen - Boje who has gone before us(RIP). We liked the place because of its ambiance and the down to earth prices. It was good place to take girls - you spent less and had a good atmosphere thrown into the bargain. The girls didnt mind cause they cared more for our company than our accounts, besides, we didnt have any then. We went there for another reason. We admired the owner, though in a platonic way. Yeah, you heard me right, platonic. She was our aunties senior in secondary school - if you get what I mean. The last time I was there was to attend a fellowship. Before the fellowship, I saw the lady, who had not aged a bit since those days. I asked her why she didnt have yam balls and she told me that it was because yams were hard to get. I promised her some yam, but didnt fulfil my promise. Throughout the fellowship the memories of us sitting out watching cars passed by came flooding. I forgot another reason we went there - it was quite easy to get a cab there being just beside the main highway. It was the days of ladies not minding whether you picked them up or not, though taking them back came in if you wanted them to be home by 6pm to cook, or just be home. Macs car, a cream 504 Peugeot with registration, 1790 was always available, and Mac always willing to drive so we could play the latest Criss Cross, Anita Baker, After 7, Arrested Development, Michael Jackson, etc to the ladies. Those were the days when you had to add an EQ & tweeters to the car stereo. I remember a lady cautioning us that wed pay for the loud music later on in life. We still hv not started paying and wont - Boje can you hear me? Now NTC Garden is gone, bit well keep the memories we can. So long from FANTA BOYS, then.
