NTFL U18 WRAP-UP: Southern Districts did just enough to fight off a feisty Waratah outfit at Gardens Oval on Sunday. The Crocs kicked away in the third term to eventually win 11.11 (77) to 9.4 (58). It was an agonising loss for the young Warriors, who are still searching for its first win since re-joining the competition. But the red and whites can take plenty of positives from the match, including the performances of Toby Hunkin and Zack Rogers. Buffaloes thrashed a disappointing Palmerston by 75 points at Northline Oval on Sunday. The double blues look a much improved side compared to this time last year and big man Alan Mummery is in devastating form up forward. Through sheer size and strength Mummery is looming as one of the more dangerous forwards in the competition and his six goals on the weekend was a testament to that. He was well supported by Duane Councillor and Lindsay Jessell. Big River Hawks notched up a gutsy come-from-behind win over a determined Wanderers outfit in Katherine on Sunday. The Hawks entered the match as favourites but were left shell-shocked by the fast starting Eagles. But the cream eventually rose to the top and the Hawks took home the four points with a 14-point triumph. Nightcliff recorded a clinical 40-point win over St Marys on Saturday morning. Despite the recent loss to Big River, the Tigers are certainly one of the teams to beat in the U18 competition. - JC
