NTV NEWS UPDATE BUKANGA MP DEAD Bukanga County Member of Parliament in Isingiro district, Gregory Matovu is dead. The 58-year-old legislator died this morning at the Nakasero Hospital of throat cancer. His death comes hardly a month after the death of Buhweju MP Joy Kariisa. He was a member of the Committee on Information and Communication Technology Commissions, Statutory Authorities and State Enterprises. The late joined Parliament in 2011 but had served capacities in government. They include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Education Ministry and was a member of the Presidential Commission on Teso In the last two years. Parliament has lost five other legislators including Michael Oromoit and Cerinah Nebanda in 2012, Eriya Kategaya, Stephen Malinga and Joy Kariisa this year. CITY NOISE KCCA Executive Director, Jennifer Musisi says there is need to regulate public places that have been pointed at for noise pollution. These include religious places and social avenues like bars. She says KCCA is in talks with the relevant stakeholders. The Executive Director has, however, dismissed claims that the authority plans to ban night prayers and early morning prayers for the Muslims over noise pollution. She says this is a falsehood generated and propagated by malicious persons intended to tarnish the image of KCCA and cause public unrest. HIV/AIDS MAPPING A new report on HIV in Kampala has highlighted the hot spots where most at risk populations are based including those that drive the HIV virus more in the city. The research was conducted under the auspices of KCCA in collaboration with AMICAALL with the support of Ministry of Health, Uganda AIDS Commission and UN partners. NAIROBI TRAVEL ADVISORY The USA Government has asked its citizens to avoid traveling to Kenya until the security situation is resolved. In a travel advisory, the USA says Kenya remains a target for more terrorists attacks in various parts of the country. SOUTH SUDAN Uganda and South Sudan police have resolved to intensify efforts to bring lasting harmony to the citizens of the two countries especially those working in Juba. The joint forces met in Juba to discuss the persistent border conflicts. The Ugandan traders in South Sudan have issued many complaints of harassment. POLICE BRIEFING Police have arrested three of their own on assault charges. The alleged assault is said to have taken place yesterday at Mukwano Group of Companies premises. The three are said to have taken the law into their hands in a area which was out of their jurisdiction.The officers will face a special police tribunal tomorrow to answer to the charges. AFRICA WRAP Top Kenyan security officials are to be quizzed by MPs about alleged intelligence failings over the deadly Westgate shopping centre attack. Further afield, suspected Islamist militants stormed a college in northeastern Nigeria and shot dead about 40 male students. And about 1,000 Sudanese staged another protest in Khartoum on Sunday to demand that President Omar Hassan al-Bashir resign.
