NTV NEWS UPDATE INTERNATIONAL NEWS Two U.S rights groups Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have asked the US government to hold to account people responsible for civilian deaths in the Middle East and be more transparent about its drone programme. MONITOR THOUGHT LEADERS FORUM The Monitor Thought Leaders Forum has continued to register rising numbers of participants since its inception in 2010. The forum provides a platform for interaction among different stakeholders to discuss modes of acquiring efficiency in different places of work. This year’s forum also targets lecturers from different disciplines who need to tap in the rich experience of the moderators on how to succeed in today’s job market and later on pass on the skill to their students. NATIONAL ID PROJECT The long awaited National Identity Card Project is finally set to kick off next month with the registration of Ugandans from the ages of 16 onwards which breaks away from the traditional 18 year-age-limit. The Internal Affairs Minister General Aronda Nyakairima made the revelation while appearing at Parliament this morning. General Nyakairima says the initial registration exercise, which will involve various government departments, will be undertaken in three months. The exercise will later resume after the 2016 general elections, when they will register newly born Ugandan babies and children at the age of 15 years. LICENSING FOREIGN FIRMS The Internal Affairs Ministry is considering tighening the criteria for granting licenses to foreign owned companies operating in the country following the gang rape of a 23-year-old woman by five Pakistani nationals. It has emerged that some of the gang rape suspects were in the country illegally. The Internal Affairs Minister General Aronda Nyakairima says the rape case will be dealth with to its conclusion. INSURANCE CHALLENGES The insurance industry continues to register a low uptake, a factor that players peg on the lack of a clear understanding of the sector. The Chief Executive Officer of the Uganda Insurers Association, Miriam Magala, says there are a number of misconceptions in the industry that still need to be demystified.
