NUESTRA SEÑORA DE LA SALUD The miraculous image of NS DE LA SALUD (OUR LADY OF HEALTH) was brought by the Agustinian Recollects from mexico to the philippines. it was arrived in the first half of 1600s and was enshrined in san juan bautista de bagumbayan (present day luneta) whose chapel was covered with gold and silver ex-voto in the form of the body parts(the presence of gold and silver ex-voto reveals the devotions to the Virgin believed to be miraculous). it was transferred to intramuros when her church (extra-muros) was destroyed after the british invasion of manila in 1762-1764 and was enshrined in St. nicolas Church (intra-muros) of the recollects together with the black nazarene (now enshrined in quiapo church). it was thought to have been destroyed and disappeared during the american carpet bombing of intramuros. Oral history by spanish recollects revealed later on that it was kept in San Sebastian church by the recollect friars to escape the american bombing and looting of churches. it was transferred later in the provincial house at project 6, Quezon city. Later she was given to the Museo Recoletos in tandang sora Quezon city for safe keeping and conservation until such time she will be restored to her proper place with a church and shrine. Many people are not familiar anymore with this miraculous image of the dark virgin of health. She was the most famous virgin in the 1600s and 1700s as the records would show. the veneration of her image wa earlier than any marian devotions in manila. Many thought she was destroyed in the american bombing of intramuros during the liberation. Her transfer from her original church (san juan bautista de bagumbayan) to san nicolas church in intramuros and her disappearance during the liberation of manila believed to be the cause of the disappearance of her devotion. she is 2 feet tall including the base . gold and silverworks as well as precious stones adorned her image Let us pray to god the almighty, through the intercession of nuestra señora de la salud, to grant us health in mind and body. amen. #abangan #soon
