NULM scheme is unrealistic TNN Oct 9, 2013, 04.01AM IST Tags: The National| NULM scheme| National Urban Livelihoods Mission PANAJI: In the next 30 years, half of the nations population will be in the cities and privatization will take over government-run operations, New Delhi based Dunu Roy said on Saturday. Roy runs Hazards Centre in the national capital, working with the urban poor, workers rights and labour issues. Addressing students from the field of social work, Roy also criticized the National Urban Livelihoods Mission (NULM), approved by the union cabinet, a month back, which would target the urban poor and provide skill training along with night shelters. Roy said, The scheme targets migrants and will make provisions to give night shelters. The plan is that one lakh people will be housed under one shelter, which seems completely unrealistic. Once they cant hold so many people under one shelter, inevitably, they will go back to the slums.
