NUPENG STRIKE: QUEUES RETURNS TO MAJOR CITIES. Fuel queues resurfaced on Monday in parts of Lagos and Abuja, as the three-day warning strike called by the National Union of Petroleum and Natural Gas Workers (NUPENG) began across the country. The strike is to protest alleged inhuman treatment on members by management of international oil companies- Chevron, Agip and Shell Petroleum Development Company (SPDC). The workers are also protesting government’s failure to fix the deplorable roads on which tanker drivers transport petroleum products nationwide. A meeting between the union officials and Minister of Petroleum Resources, Diezani Allison-Madueke, earlier scheduled for yesterday in Abuja did not hold because the minister was not available for the parley. Also workers at the Ministry of Petroleum Resources staged a brief protest at their premises, preventing the union’s leadership from gaining access to the venue for the meeting.
