#NUTSHELL – DECEMBER 13th — PRECIOUS!!! – 2 Peter 2:4-10: The Wall Street Journal is reporting regularly that investors are turning out in droves to purchase precious metals or precious stones as a hedge against uncertainty in the global economy. The word “precious” conveys the idea of being valuable or costly, highly esteemed and dearly loved. The Bible uses the word precious to describe the value of our lives (Psalm 22:20) and of God’s loving kindness (Psalm 36:7), His thoughts toward us (Psalm 139:17), His wisdom on our lips (Proverbs 3:15 and 20:15) and of a good reputation (Ecclesiastes 7:1). In the New Testament, Peter uses the word more than anyone. In his letters he calls our faith precious and so is a gentle and quiet sprit. Our Lord Jesus is precious as in His redeeming blood and we’ve been blessed with His “great and precious promises.” Precious metals will burn up one day and precious stones will be left behind. But our most priceless possessions are ours forever and we’ll enjoy them in heaven as on earth. All that is really precious to us as Christians is ours eternally for where He is, there we will be also. Scripture says in 1 Peter 2:7, “Therefore to you who believe, He is precious.” What are we doing this holiday season to highly value Christ’s sacrifice for us? Are we serving others sincerely? Are we worshiping with our forever family passionately? Are we giving of our resources generously? Are we thanking Him for His unspeakable gift of eternal life to us?
