#NUTSHELL – DECEMBER 22nd — I AM A DEBTOR – Hebrews 10:23-25: The Christmas season offers many opportunities for churches in the community to visit and partake of special Christmas programming. Attend as many as you so desire, just remember your loyalty to your church during the Season. Which brings a thought, how much loyalty do I owe the church that I call “my church.” Think for a minute about what your church has done for you. Perhaps you received Christ in your local church and were even baptized there; at your church you have received spiritual instruction and have been given the privilege to serve in some capacity. Your home church is your church of choice. If any or all of these things are true in your experience, then you owe a great debt of loyalty and devotion to your church. We owe our church loyalty for what it has done for you personally and for its ministry in the community. Being loyal doesn’t mean that you fail to recognize the good work other churches and Christian organizations are doing, but rather you prioritize your time to be sure your church is faithfully ministered to by participation, prayer and generous giving. We live in times of church-hopping and shopping. The consumer mentality is entrenched in our American culture and at times it diminishes loyalty to your local body of believers; say the church is outdated and irrelevant, that just isn’t so. Our local church – as part of the body of Christ – is God’s means for accomplishing His purposes; worship, discipleship, fellowship, ministry and missions to the world. Give it your best.
