#NUTSHELL – NOVEMBER 28th — GET AWAY – Mark 1:35-37: According to starpulse the top ten celebrity getaways are as follows: Cabo San Lucas; Miami, Florida; the British Virgin Islands; Aspen, Colorado; The Hamptons; St. Barth’s; Cannes, France; Jackson Hole, Wyoming; St. Tropez, France; and Hawaii. The one thing that many of the places have in common is that they are different from the celebrity’s normal environment. They frequent these places to get-away from the hustle and bustle their everyday lives have to offer. Jesus became a celebrity in His day. The tabloids (Pharisees) gossiped about everything He did and many fans followed Him around just to hear Him speak. He was well known even by those He had never met (Acts 4:13). But in the verses in Mark we do not see Jesus retreat to a resort. Instead we see Him find a solitary place. He did not take His family with Him, and according to verse 37 He did not tell His friends that He was leaving, He just got away. How often do you get away? Maybe your solitary place is your closet, back porch or when you’re alone in your car. The times that we see Jesus talking to His Father, He is alone. Before He started His ministry He went to the desert and before He took His place on the cross He went to the garden. All through His time here on earth He was in constant communication with His Father. Our journey is not like those who have gone before us, with words and guns; no, our position is on our knees. Even though people may be pressuring us to do things the world’s way we have to get away and listen to God’s way. The hustle and bustle of life is not going to stop. But you can take the time to be still and quiet in this moment. Ask God His plan. What is your role in this revolution? What can you do today to be an active participant? What is His plan for your involvement for the future?
