#NUTSHELL – OCTOBER 26th — OPPOSED, GO ANYWAY – 2 Peter 1:1-4: Before the birth of the great era of modern missions, Leonard Dober and David Nitschman left Germany to take the Gospel to the uttermost parts of the world. They were arguably the first missionaries in Protestant history, sent out by Moravian Christians to go to Copenhagen for passage to the West Indies; but in Copenhagen the two men encountered opposition. Local authorities ridiculed their cause; even the man who had invited them to the West Indies changed his mind. Just when the spirits of the two men faltered, they found the verse: “God is not a man that He should lie…has He not said and will He not do? Or has He spoken and will He not make it good?” (Numbers 23:19) Encouraged by those words, Dober and Nitschman pressed on to the West Indies where they made missionary history and paved the way for thousands of others who have gone into all the world for millennia. The prompting and call of God in our lives when we follow them produces eternal dividends. Some of us need to get a real life instead of sitting in front of the many different screens we can be engaged by. Get up and do something for someone else, go to church or volunteer. So what’s playing in your life? What’s devouring your time and filling your mind? Have you dialed into so much media that you don’t have time to be dialed into what God’s purpose and plans are for you? Are you too plugged into the entertainment scene? Isn’t it time to get into right things – God, Bible Study, ministry, evangelism. We need to stop trying to negotiate with God and follow Him. If discouraged or weary – God can be trusted to finish what He has begun and He will fulfill all He has promised.
