NWS Forecast: FORECAST for LOUISIANA Southwest Louisiana: Patchy fog this morning will give way to a few showers this afternoon and tonight with a cold front sweeping through the region tomorrow. Showers and thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday with the best chance for strong storms to be located in south central Louisiana. Southeast Louisiana: There is a marginal risk of severe weather through tonight and a slight risk of severe weather Tuesday morning through Tuesday evening. Organized severe thunderstorms are not anticipated, though one or two may become strong or marginally severe this afternoon and overnight. Any thunderstorms that develop along the south of the warm front will have some potential to become severe with damaging winds, gusts, and isolated tornadoes being the primary threat and large hail the least likely threat. The threat of severe weather will increase after sunrise tomorrow with the greatest threat generally along and east of a line from Houma to Hammond to McComb. National Weather Service in Slidell stated they are confident thunderstorms will occur and have average confidence concerning the threat of severe thunderstorms. Central/North Louisiana: Patchy fog this morning will give way to a few showers this afternoon and tonight with a cold front sweeping through the region tomorrow. Showers and thunderstorms are expected on Tuesday. There is a limited risk that thunderstorms will be severe in NE LA (Madison, Tensas, and Concordia Parishes) with large hail being the main risk. Impacts/Precautions: Ø Damaging wind gust in excess of 60 mph which o Winds could down trees and power lines and/or cause structural damages. o Winds this strong can make driving difficult, especially for high profile vehicles and high rise bridges. Use extra caution. o Winds over local waterways could be 5 mph higher than over land. Small boats will be especially prone to capsizing. Ø Isolated tornadoes o If you receive a tornado warning, protect yourself and your family; seek shelter immediately. Ø Large hail o Stay away from windows, especially those being struck by hail o If you are outside, seek shelter immediately. If you can’t find something to protect your entire body, find something to protect your head.
