NWS Short Range Forecast Fri Dec 05 2014 ... ...Heavy precipitation possible over parts of the Sierras ... ...Freezing rain possible for interior portions of the Pacific Northwest ... ...There is a chance of freezing rain over parts of Northern New England ... ... Low pressure developing over the Southern Plains will move northeastward to the Mid-Atlantic by Saturday evening. The system will pull moisture off the Gulf of Mexico that will overrun the associated front producing light to moderate rain over parts of the Middle Mississippi Valley/Central Plains that will move eastward to the Mid-Atlantic and portions of the Northeast by Saturday. Showers and thunderstorms will develop over Tennessee Valley/Middle Mississippi Valley, starting by Friday afternoon, that will move into parts of the Southern portions of the Ohio Valley on Saturday morning, then move to the Carolina Coast by Saturday evening. Pockets of rain/freezing rain will develop over parts of the Northern Appalachians into Northern New England Friday evening into Saturday morning. Meanwhile, upper-level energy off the West Coast will move eastward into an upper-level ridge axis extending from the Pacific Northwest to the Southwest, with a net result of reducing the energy by Saturday. Moisture associated with the system will produce light to moderate rain over parts of the California Coast by Friday evening. Some of the moisture will move into the Pacific Northwest aiding in the development of rain/freezing rain over interior portions of the Northwest through to late Friday night. Areas of snow will develop over parts of the Northern Rockies through Saturday. The rain will wane to a small area over parts of Washington state and northern Idaho by Saturday evening. Some of the remaining upper-level energy will aid in producing rain over parts of the Southern Rockies and snow over parts of the Central Rockies on Saturday evening.
