NY SENIOR ALERT!! 09/07/2014 WEB MEMO A volunteer writes: One look at Braco is enough to break your heart. His body has clearly seen better days, but he is still a big, handsome dog. I first saw him curled up on his bed; as I passed by with another dog, he opened his lids to reveal gunky brown eyes. When I passed next, he was up and barking - he wanted to go out, too! Braco is physically frail, but so strong in character - slow moving and shaky on his back legs, but still eager to trudge forward. He is very curious and likes to scope everything out with his nose. He always relieves himself as soon as we get outside, so may have housetraining. Braco LOVES treats and if he senses Im holding out on him, hell utter the most charming, deep bark! He has a (deserved) sense of entitlement, but is not grabby with treats and will even sit for them. Braco is very friendly and there is something so, so sweet about him. He loves to be pet and will lean his head into my lap when I massage his ears. Where some dogs might feel vulnerable, he is very trusting and really a pleasure to be with! He has had a variety of neighbors, from a pack of pekingeses, scared labs, and vocal mastiffs; Braco has seemed relaxed and friendly towards all of them - sniffing them briefly and gently wagging his tail. As we walk through the hallway staff members move aside, as if paying respect to a veteran. He is an old dog that has probably loyally served his human, and now finds himself alone. Upon returning him to his cage I find that someone has added several extra blankets to his bed to cushion his achy limbs. He curls up again, but as I look in my bag for a pen he bounces up again and reminds me thats where the treats are! No amount of treats or blankets are enough to honor him; Braco belongs in a warm retirement home - he has such a wonderful spirit and so much love to give!TO BE DESTROYED 9/8/14 Brooklyn Center -P My name is BRACO.
