NY governor Andrew Cuomo and NJ governor Chris Christie announced - TopicsExpress

NY governor Andrew Cuomo and NJ governor Chris Christie announced Saturday night that they would embrace Port Authority reforms recommended by a panel they appointed in May, but would veto a key piece of reform legislation adopted overwhelmingly by the legislature of both states. That key piece of the legislation is elimination of the positions of executive director and deputy executive, who in recent decades have functioned essentially as co-directors, each allegedly serving the interesting of the governor who appointed the official. But, according to critics, the divided leadership has resulted into interstate rivalry, and, perhaps, hostility within the agency epitomized by the GWB lane closures known earlier and enforced in New Jersey but not in New York.
