NYERI TO GENERATE SOLAR,WIND POWER.............. The County government of Nyeri is planning to produce its own renewable energy, Governor Nderitu Gachagua has announced. Gachagua said the government was exploring opportunities for energy exploitation within the County. Speaking to journalists in Nyeri town, the Governor announced that a solar power firm will be developed at Kiamariga in Mathira West sub-County since feasibility study is already done. He stated that wind energy will also be exploited at Nairutia in Kieni constituency to supplement the power generation capacity. “We would wish to see every market centre and every public institution in the County connected to the national grind,” said Gachagua. He added that KES 20 million has been set aside to support small scale businesses with trade loans explaining that the businesses are significant towards poverty alleviation, employment creation and rural development.
