NYTimes: Kicking the Facebook Habit What bothers me about - TopicsExpress

NYTimes: Kicking the Facebook Habit What bothers me about these type of pieces is both the judgmentalism and the self-congratulation. I should add - the hypocrisy of needing to broadcast ones critique of broadcasting. Not that some critique is not in order! It is. It is possible to overpost or to post in poor taste or to post too many trite items. But that does not mean FB is at fault or the problem any more than the very idea of a gathering of people called a party is a problem because some people are blowhards or superficial and uninteresting. For me FB good out weights FB bad, for now. I am more in touch with old friends and family and new friends than ever before in my life. I learn things, I have thoughtful debates, I see lovely photos, I enjoy the camaraderie of likeminded people who care about the world, I learn about books and movies and music. I could go on. If and when it becomes too much of a substitute for face to face human interaction, I will cut back.
