NZ Day 23 of 89. Birthday ride East & North of Nelson. The day started out chilly so I had to stop in Blenheim to buy a hoody. The rest of the day was spectacular for riding. I was even pleasantly surprised to get 17 extra km on the French Pass road to Elaine Bay. This was not paved on the last Google Map run. Map of my trip https://goo.gl/maps/ruz5P After a wonderful ride of 405km taking 9 hrs, I returned to the Hostel to go out for a steak birthday dinner at the Lone Star Cafe next door to the YHA hostel with my new Saskatchewan friend Jenn who is on a 1 yr working visa. Our waitress at the restaurant was visiting NZ from Montreal. Go figure...who would have guessed that on my birthday I would feel so much at home. The waitress said that we must be Canadian because she could understand us. Thats the thing here if someone speaks and you dont hear an accent then they are central/western Canadian or West coast USA. Jenn and I had a great conversation and the food was excellent. For my birthday we received a free loaf of fresh baked bread with garlic butter...so good and a boysenberry meringue dessert. What a special day for a special guy. Couldnt have been better.
