Na, The sodium ion is the nerve ending transfer for communication - TopicsExpress

Na, The sodium ion is the nerve ending transfer for communication between the brain and muscles. When infected with an anaerobic bacteria, (as in a rusty nail) the by-product of the bacteria agglutinates to the sodium ion breaking the communication line. The brain may at one point have told muscles to contract, and then not be able to tell them to relax, hence lockjaw. Animals need salt for muscle comfort and action, and tetanus vaccines to prevent lockjaw.
