Nagpur: A German government delegation will be visiting the National Civil Defence College (NCDC) in city on Tuesday afternoon to explore opportunities of knowledge sharing. NCDC is the only one of its kind run by the Union home ministry in the country and it has been constantly upgrading itself to provide international level simulation of disaster situations in its sprawling campus. GS Saini, director of NCDC, said, A four member team is visiting to have a look at the infrastructure we have and at this moment is only a discussion level meet. The latest upgrade at NCDC is a chopper shell it has received from Hindustan Aeronautics Limited (HAL) which will be crucial in providing training for civil defence. Saini, said, Our plan is to suspend this chopper shell about 25-30 feet in air, above an artificial water tank. The water will help us to provide simulation for air rescue for people stuck in water. We will use the winch to pull the rescued people up. The chopper will be suspended in air in such a way that from one side its occupant trainees can access the water tank below and plain ground from the other. Training will be provided on how to slither down from a chopper and rescue people on ground. The next equipment for disaster training simulation will be coming from the Railways. The Central Railways has agreed to provide us with two coaches so that we can simulate a rail disaster. It will be the only one in the entire country, said Saini. The NCDC director has a grand plan for building a simulation of disaster city that will mimic almost every known disaster situation and for which training can be provided at international level quality. We will be getting access to the fire college campus once it shifts completely to the new building. We will be developing infrastructure for civil defence training there too, said Saini. With the institute being the only one in the country, its director is hoping to take it a couple of notches higher and bring it to top international level training centre. We are constantly looking for ways to improve and better what we already have. We are offering different types of training at our campus and we hope to learn from different countries and adopt their best practices. Exchange of knowledge will always be mutually beneficial, said Saini. m.timesofindia/city/nagpur/German-delegation-to-visit-NCDC/articleshow/45946942.cms
