Nails it, I think. In fact, on his point 3, Id almost say the prequels didnt get *enough* into the politics. Which, given Lucas tin ear for dialogue, is probably for the best. But if he had been able to let go and collaborate on the story more with people like Kasdan, he probably could have spent as much time, or more, with Padmes side of things. Most of Padmes story, unfortunately, is on the cutting room floor, along with all of the scenes of Mon Mothma from Revenge of the Sith. Everyone berates Lucas for the central problem of The Phantom Menace being a trade dispute, but look at how much of our time and energy is spent on economic arguments in the real world. Yes, this was a fantasy adventure and not an economic thesis, but honestly I think having Palpatine manipulate his way to power by such a boring and banal method is *inspired*. The problem is not in the concept, its in Lucas not-quite-skilled-enough execution. And really, for as much grief as the movie gets for the Senate scene, thats less than five minutes in a 2+ hour long movie.
