Nairobi, 20th September 2013 Liebe Kursteilnehmer, Dear Students, We hope that the term has started well and that you are enjoying your classes. A very special welcome to our new students! 1. Term Dates Our term runs from 9th September to 3rd December. A1 super intensive classes that started on 9th September will end on 18th October. The next level A2 will start on Tuesday, 22nd October and also end on 3rd December. Enrolment for A2 super intensive classes will take place from 14th to 18th October. Please register early in order to secure your desired place. 2. Class Representatives All classes should elect class representatives who should then present themselves to the Head of Language Courses. Please introduce yourself if you haven’t done so. Feel free to channel any matters you would like to draw our attention to through your class representatives. 3. Examination Audit in July 2013 We would like to thank all candidates who participated in the examination audit in July. Your cooperation ensured a smooth process. We are now in the process of implementing recommendations for improving our examination process. 4. E-Library & German Corner in Buruburu Our Buruburu students can access materials from the German Corner in the main Kenya National Library at no extra cost. All you need is your valid student ID/library membership card in order to access the materials. Remember to register for our E-Library at goethe.de/ins/ke/nai/wis/bib/onl/for/enindex.htm. 5. Winners of Goethe-Superstar 2013 (GSSS 2013) We are pleased to announce the following winners of the GSSS 2013 competition: - 2nd runners-up, Kevin O. Vincent, A2, 50% scholarship on tuition fees - 1st runners-up, Robert Mulinge, A2, full scholarship and books for 1 term - Goethe-Superstar 2013, Catherine Kitavi Ndanu, B2.1, 4-week fully-paid language course at Goethe-Institut Bonn. Congratulations to our GSS 2013, Catherine Ndanu! We wish you a memorable stay in Germany. You too can be a winner! Watch out for the GSSS 2014 announcement! 6. Code of Conduct for Goethe Students We are designing a code of conduct for all students. Once it is complete, it will be part of our conditions of enrolment. Further information will be available in the course of the term. 7. Holidays in 3rd term 2013 We will mark the following holidays this term: Thursday, 3rd October – Day of German Unity, Monday, 21st October – Mashujaa Day, Friday, 1st November - teachers’ workshop. There will be no classes on these three days. Your class teachers will advise you on make-up classes. 8. Test for Academic Studies in Germany (TESTAS) 2013 Would you like to pursue a Bachelors degree in Germany? Then TESTAS is just for you! The next examination will take place on Saturday, 26th October from 8.45a.m. in the auditorium. Registration closed on 16th September. End of Term/International Examinations International examinations B1, B2 and C1 will take place on 4th and 5th December. Registration will take place from 11th to 22nd November. A1 (Start Deutsch 1) examinations are offered every month. Please consult the Start Deutsch leaflet at the language desk for details. Always seek your teacher’s advice before making any payment for any examination. Examination preparation classes take place two weeks before the exam. B1, B2 and C1 certificates will be handed over during the end-of-term function on 6th December from 2.00p.m., which will be followed by an end-year show by the Deutschklub. 10. Tipps for improving your German and expanding your horizon Join our vibrant “Deutsch Klub”. Membership is open to all Goethe-Institut students! Details are announced on posters and by club officials; borrow our new, exciting and interactive materials from the library or practice German online in your online classroom and on the other websites in the students’ guide. 11.
