Nairobi Half Life . Some insiders. This is a first feature film by young former assistant director David Tosh Gitonga. What makes this film stand out from the most of local african productions is the production value and the way every department has done a professional job. This might be partially explained by the involvement of supervising director Tom Tykwer and his One Fine Day Film Workshop, which sponsors one African film per year. For those who dont know Tom, he is one of the most the talented German Directors who shot to fame after "Run Lola Run" he now also makes films in Hollywood with known celebrities. His most recent one was a collaboration with the Wachowskis (Matrix trilogy) called Cloud Atlas. Other Films in his body of work include Heaven, The International and The Perfume. His company One Fine Day Films in Kenya has a mentors who train and supervise young talents in every department from Script, Camera to Production Design. Why Kenya ? Well they say his wife was doing some voluntary work in Nairobi and that when he decided to follow her and he saw a big filmmaking potential in Africa. Nairobi Half Life will be shown in Goethe-Institut Tanzania today at 7 pm. Daniel the cultural Director of Goethe and his team, have done an excellent job at creating an authentic German atmosphere, fully loaded with "Bratwurst" and Cold drinks for you to unwind after the long drive through the Dar traffic.
