Dear Constituents, MY STEWARDSHIP IN THE LAST THREE AND HALF YEARS (1) The most important single ingredient in the formula of success is knowing how to get along with people. ----Theodore Roosevelt. Accept my warmest regards as I write this letter to you with sense of Humility and responsibility. This is in line with the dictate of stewardship rendering according to standard practice in all democracies. In the next few day, I shall be waiting on you to redetermine my journey to the state parliament of Osun again, having presented myself for the primary of my party, All Progressives Congress (APC) and won the ticket to fly the flag in the fast approaching election. In the first premise, let me show my profound gratitude to our party for giving me another opportunity to approach you, my kinsmen and women once again for support. Besides, gratitude seizes my tongue as I think of the massive support and emotional attachment you have shown me in the last few years. In this letter, I intend to explain my role as a legislator, my interventions on developmental issues and my style of leadership in the last three and half years I have been in the parliament, first as a lawmaker representing Ejigbo State Constituency and I will seize this advantage to give account of my leadership as the Speaker of the parliament simultaneously to the good people of Osun, for my membership as well as my Speakership cannot be divorced from one another. Having won my election in 2011 into the House as we, the lawmakers fondly call the parliament, and was unanimously voted in as the Speaker by my colleagues, I set out to work based on three Principles I had early set for myself: I. quality representation, 11. champion the masses cause and 111. development of infrastructural facilities and superstructure in my constituency. Those were the goals I had set for myself abinitio. On my Honour, I made a vow to cultivate the habit of listening and assisting anyone who comes my way, irrespective of religious, political or cultural affiliation, and that was the basis for my open door policy. I make bold to say that I am one of the most accessible politicians in the country today. Not because I want to grandstand, but as a result of a deliberate resolve. Yes, I must admit that open policy is very expensive for our political office holders, because in my own case, people from outside the State of Osun were made to come around and take advantage of the my policy. But I have no cause to complain, because it is what I have elected to do before I got the office. In the process, I am aware of different names some people coined for my generosity: ATM or baba olowo, but I must say that I do not fit in into the two aliases, for all my friends know that I am not a rich man by context, though I am rich in contentment , and my driving force has always being live and let live. So, I am giving out to the poor, the needy, the rejected, the disadvantaged and the denied from the little resources appropriated to my office; sometimes, to the disadvantage of my family, friends and aides. Let it be known as a matter of fact, that I have limited properties which could still be explained within my limited resources, but I stand to be corrected that I do not match any of my colleague Speakers in any of the 36 state parliaments in material wealth or acquisition, because I cant afford to used what can assist hundreds of my constituents for my personal comfort. Besides, my resolve to share the joy and pains of my constituents is not by accident, it is as a result of my beginning in life. My life is an open book, I lost my mother at age two and I am a complete orphan at age ten. I knew what it is to be poverty stricken, and I know the pang of not having a shoulder to lean on. Today, if my pay back is to assist hundreds of people to settle scores with sickness and avoidable death through an annual medical mission I have instituted in the last three years, with my brother and friend, Dr. Sola Adeeyo as the coordinator. Oh, my joy knows no bound! In my reflection, I feel peace in my heart when i learnt that over 400 of my constituents, my immediate or extended family not inclusive are gainfully employed in the service of the state though my intervention, and who will not be happy seeing scores of undergraduates as beneficiaries of school fees bill which I am still settling. And it is on record that I am one politician in the chequered history of Ejigbo whose empowerment touched all sectors of human endeavors. The last time i decided to say thank you to my constituency, communities got electric polls, artisans of different kind got tools for their job, transporters and commercial motorcyclists benefited. Ditto for the patronage to those who worked for my victory. All these are about super-structure ( people), because I know that people to politicians are like blood to life. As touching laws and developmental projects I have facilitated to Ejigbo and its environ, I shall brief you in the next letter to detail, and subsequently challenge my constituents to ask me any question as related to my job ad my leadership at the state parliament of Osun. I thank you for painstakingly read this letter. Yours sincerely, Najeem Folasayo Salaam
