Nakuru,Kenya:Members of the Maasai community in Olkaria, Naivasha are now claiming that some families have been locked out of the Sh1 billion resettlement by power producer KenGen. 0 inShare The community has called on KenGen to urgently address the issue as it was raising unnecessary tension and could affect the exercise in the geothermal-rich area. As the validation exercise entered the last stages, the community said that over 30 families had been left out. Following the impasse, a meeting has been called on Wednesday between members of the community and KenGen to thrash out outstanding issues. hold talks One of the leaders, Jackson Sencho, admitted they were yet to agree on the number of beneficiaries. Sencho singled out Olomaiyiona village as one area where there were still disagreements over the number of families to be resettled. “We are in talks with KenGen over the resettlement though some issues like the number of families to be resettled and pastures for our livestock is still pending,” he said. The sentiments were echoed by another leader, Mwangi Sururu, who said the issues would be addressed in a meeting on Wednesday. He said KenGen planned to construct 164 houses for 107 families, adding that this would lock out some families. “The validation exercise has ended and we hope that all the families will be resettled to avoid any tension,” he said.
