Namibia, Swakopmund. Km 2306: Oryx, Kudu, Zebra on the side of the road. Incredibly challenging day yesterday with sand and yet amazing. In the last two days we have ridden mostly dirt of which at least 100 km were sand. Some of the sand got really bad for kilometers on end and for a few km it made me wonder if I was going to be able to control the bike and not come off. At the end I got my sand groove and started letting the bike wobble and move underneath me and made it to the lodge with that much more experience on dirt. I have been hitting the sand at 100 km per hour and it has gotten a bit better. Along the way we have crossed stunning golden grass Savannas with wild animals all around us which made it all that much more exhilarating. I had a group of Kudus and another group of Oryx cross the road in front of me and Daniel one of the Australian mates almost got run over by two Giraffes but I was not there to see it. Yesterday we stayed at “Le Mirage” which is this luxurious Castle compound in the middle of beautiful scenery with a water hole were Oryx come to drink. Later at night we had a luscious dinner accompanied by traditional Namibian African dances and songs by the hotel staff. Charley asserted at dinner with his British accent that we are having a Proper adventure… I could not agree more. Today I saw several Zebras in the distance and a couple of ostriches as we left the Savanna and crossed into the Nabib desert. Today the scenery changed from golden Savanna as far as the eye can see to desert that would blend with the horizon to large sand dunes to the Atlantic Ocean Skeleton Coast. Tomorrow is our day off and I am thinking about exploring the ship wrecks along the skeleton coast. The adventure continues!
